Stephen Harper

Process Engineer

Stephen is a Principal Process Engineer with substantial experience in New Zealand and Australia. He has extensive experience with Process Safety assessments, including Hazop facilitation, LOPA studies, SIL reviews and risk assessments of all aspects of process plant, including pressure protection systems.

Some of the areas in which he has been especially involved are:

  • Design of storage and handling facilities for flammable liquids, including the design of fire protection systems for the same.
  • The design of high-pressure gas compression facilities.
  • The optimisation of process systems including distillation systems, wellstream fluids processing, cooling water systems and glycol regeneration
  • The design and application of heat exchangers
  • Energy optimisation studies
  • CO2 removal from natural gas and subsequent processing
  • Lead process engineer for the optimisation of wood pulping / tissue manufacturing plants, including optimisation of energy usage (steam/gas/electricity/compressed air), reductions in emissions, and reductions in water usage.
  • Steam boilers and associate steam systems

Danny Lim

INSTRUMENT & ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Danny is an experienced and qualified Electrical and Electronics Engineer with over twenty years industry experience in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Danny has worked as an Instrumentation Engineer, primarily in Oil and Gas.

Some of the areas in which he has been especially involved are:

  • Hazardous Area Equipment Installation
  • Field Instrumentation
  • Fire and Gas systems
  • Control Logic Safeguard systems
  • Switchboard and Transformer upgrades

Recent projects that Danny has been involved in include:

  • Jemena – Detailed design for Horsley Park Metering Stn Upgrade. Brownfield project, doubling capacity of the site.
  • Jemena – Wilton Metering Stn, Sydney, Greenfield project. Design of new metering station from main pipeline to Sydney.
  • Flexgas – Ahuroa Storage Facility Expansion. Doubling storage and export capacity of the site. Upgrade includes 3 new compressors, new TEG system, upgrade of Delta V system, integration to site SIS system, new transformer, MCC and generator.
  • Todd Energy – Mangahewa C & D Wellsites Compression.  New Compressor for each wellsite, with new remote Delta V and SIS system.  Upgrade of site electrical supply system for electrically motorised VSD (1.2MW).  New transformer for site supply and dedicated transformer for VSD.  New MCC and Instrument & Electrical Hut
  • Firstgas – Kaitoke Compressor Station Upgrade. New Compressor with new Instrument & Electrical Hut.  Integration to site SCADA system. The station is run remotely from Firstgas Bell Block Control Room.

Alan Hooker (semi-retired)

Instrument & Electrical Engineer

Alan is an Electrical, Instrument and Controls Engineers with substantial experience throughout New Zealand and Australia. He has worked across a wide range of industries, including thermal power stations, flammable liquid storage & processing facilities, electronics design and manufacturing, high pressure gas systems, steam generating plant, electricity generation, power distribution and various manufacturing industries.

Some of the areas in which he has been especially involved are:

  • Supervision of Instrument & Electrical teams of up to 20 people.
  • Boiler Controls and Burner Management systems, including assessment for service, design, installation & commissioning.
  • Development of ‘Functional Descriptions’ (used to program a control system) for a number of industrial processes and power plants.
  • Design, installation and commissioning of plant-wide instrumentation systems, including where flammable liquids & gases are stored and processed. This includes problematic level and flow sensing in industrial plants.
  • Extensive experience with industrial gas-fired appliances, including boilers, gas-fuel engines, flares, pilot burners and combustion systems.
  • Assessment and certification of gas-fired appliances (endorsed via WorkSafe, NZ)
  • Design of site-wide AC power services, including earthing, bonding, cable selections, switchboards, transformers, both low voltage and medium voltage.
  • Electric motor – drive systems, either DOL or via Variable Speed Drives (VSD).
  • Zoning of gas hazardous areas due to the presence of flammable gases or liquids. Also zoning of dust hazard zones.
  • The design of instrument and control systems for flammable fluids.
  • Embedded power generation, standby gensets and backup power supply systems.
